Nancy Méndez-Booth is a writer, educator, and performer of Puerto Rican descent, originally from New York City and now based in Jersey City. Her writing has appeared in print and online, including in Poets & Writers, Latina, Salon, OZY Media, VIDA.org, and the Latina Outsiders: Remaking Latina Identity anthology.
Nancy has performed her work at venues including Cornelia Street Café, The Moth, Hear Her Call Caribbean-American Women’s Theater Festival, and Midtown International Theatre Festival. Excerpts of selected performances may be viewed on YouTube. Nancy has received awards to attend Vermont Studio Center, Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, and Blue Mountain Center. She was selected in 2017 for the NJ Women Playwrights Program, which provided development support for “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” Most recently, Nancy was awarded the 2020 Literary Arts award by the Jersey City Arts Council for artistic excellence and contribution to the arts community.
Nancy has a BA in English from Amherst College, and an MA in English Critical Theory and an MFA in Creative Writing, both from Rutgers-Newark. She currently works at Stevens Institute of Technology helping science and techy people make their writing accessible and is actively expanding her online tutoring and writing coaching business.
